Privacy Vs. Content

Hand in the cookie jar...Facebook has been caught in a smear campaign against Google. Apparently, a PR firm hired by FB has admitted that they've been persuading journalists to write negative things about Google's privacy practices. To my mind, Facebook has the worse track record, but the point is relatively moot. Both companies offer services for 'free', but free basically means you give up some of your privacy. Daily, marketers come up with cleverer, more-insidious methods of gaining trust while creeping slowly further into our homes, our offices and our families' lives.

Charter Communications - Not my favorite ISP

weighing charterThere are a growing number of reasons why Charter Communications - my current ISP - is losing favor with myself. For what they offer, they are woefully overpriced. They offer a phone service that costs a little less than land-line phones, but they cannot provide consistent, uninterrupted cable or internet connection, so they cannot possibly provide reliable 911 service - yet they offer just such a service. Worse - they have begun posting their own 404 'advertisement/search screen' on my unused subdomains for all who view documents through their internet services.
